Excerpts from Obama’s autobiography, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance are causing a stir among conservative commentators.
They include such unifying, hopeful gems like:
“I had begun to see a new map of the world, one that was frightening in its simplicity, suffocating in its implications. We were always playing on the white man’s court…by the white man’s rules.”
“Whatever he decided to do, it was his decision to make, not yours, and because of that fundamental power he held over you, because it preceded and would outlast his individual motives and inclinations, any distinction between good and bad whites held negligible meaning.”
And, on Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad: “I read the book to help me understand just what it is that makes white people so afraid. Their demons. The way ideas get twisted around. It helps me understand how people learn to hate.”
It is safe to say these words coming from the pen of a white candidate for President would end his bid and career.
It is also a fair bet that Republicans will make sure as many Americans as possible not only read, but hear these words should Obama secure the Democratic nomination — Obama recorded an audio version of his book (d’oh!). The audio will be particularly damning next to footage of his chosen spiritual adviser, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, telling his church congregation that the government invented AIDS to kill blacks, shouting “God d—m America,” and sneering “Hillary ain’t never been called a n—–r.” Couple this with Obama’s own ill-advised “typical white person” comment in reference to his grandmother, and you have a potent swift boat ad.
Questions about Obama’s patriotism already persist due to minor scandals that won’t go away: his tortured explanation as to why he refused to wear an American-flag lapel pin, footage of him standing with other politicians and being the only one whose hand wasn’t over his heart during the national anthem, and his wife’s admission that she had never been proud of America until her husband ran for President.
All of this will combine to fatally brand Obama as an anti-America, anti-White candidate in the minds of swing voters and middle America. The Democrats will be committing suicide by nominating someone whose words have long since made him unelectable.
