TO AMERICA,
June 4, 2008,
A turgid, pretentious, tedious, pompous manifesto of the Rebellion of defecting Democrats against the Party Elites:
Having been subjected to a series of institutionalized violations, the violated have the privilege, in the name of Self Preservation, and a sacred Duty, for the Future, to suspend the partisan ties that bind, which had long linked them a confederacy of scoundrels, and to disregard rote appeals for Unity, issued on terms not beneficial to those mishandled and thus intended to eliminate all Consequences of said abuse, thereby issuing also a carte blanche for continued humiliation.
Rather than capitulate to harmful and useless loyalties, we cleave yet to the spirit of just rebellion, that every missionary relationship, Coalition, and Institution so codified must not seek its own corporeal solvency, but must constantly uphold in earnest the welfare of its members and the values thereof; and when found in ongoing defiance of its mission, for short term gain and long term catastrophe, in ignorance of its Original principles, its denizens must rebel, exercising the painful imperative to save themselves from themselves, and to affirm their true worth, true value and Values.
We will not be dehumanized or dissuaded any longer. We are not resigned to continue playing second-fiddle in this wretched band, left with no option but to break from a Party establishment heretofore unapologetic and complicit in the accreditation and brokerage of disenfranchisement, voter fraud, vote suppression, bigotry and misogyny, and voter intimidation; similarly, moving to reject overtures soliciting unconditional acceptance of lack of experience, lack of consistency, lack of character, lack of integrity, lack of selflessness, lack of transparency, lack of ideas, and lack of sound judgment, and to demand consequences for these and other implicit violations of the national Democratic trust and tradition.
While we pledge to support down ballot Democrats, we submit as a consequence of the Democrats’ corrupted primary and policies, and of its selfish, duplicitous nominee, that we cannot, will not, must not ever, in conscience of our commitment to justice and democracy now and forever, support a nominee for President of the United States of America under the auspices of the Democratic National Committee when that candidacy represents the desecration of the Party’s core virtues and values and thus threatens the long-term viability of our party and our nation.
We are not beholden to uphold individuals or identities, which change from season to season, but to protect and preserve the Idea, which yields neither to time nor to a man.
Centrist, moderate, muscular Democrats and Independents, declared to defy the Democratic Party; to support in this election only acceptable down ballot Democrats and the Republican nominee; and not to validate the extremes of the Left; and forced into expatriation, dictate that Strength, Security, Citizenship, Competency, and Responsibility must remain at the core of our creed; that our Party must esteem the common man, common woman, and their virtues; that Our success is judged not by the self-masturbatory appetites of the Elite but by the health and wellness and will of the Middle; that any prejudice demands our officials’ collective denunciation; that principles of democracy are more sacred than rules; that thus the Party is obliged to voters and not vice versa and must err on the side of democracy and enfranchisement in all places, and at all times.
In spurning our political brothers and sisters, we know what is coming. But we remain unbossed, unbowed, and unafraid to confront the bullying a just rebellion predictably unleashes. Wedges and fear disguised as harmony and loyalty will order us to submit, demanding that the old fractious and abusive relationship be honored, and consequently the molester escapes unscathed, all of history having proven that victors Unity intends only to mute the molested, briefly delaying Their misery, having been conditioned to a lie, that protest is hopeless and that it is preferable to accept the status quo.
We will be accused of shortsightedness, Selfishness, Craziness, of cutting off the nose to spite the face, though by rights we are starving out a cancer, as our exodus intends not to sink the Democratic Party but to salvage it. Those falling in line excuse the cruel assault of the Elite and the bigoted; therefore, to vote for partisanship is to approve the deployment of bigotry as a tactic to derail future candidates, to validate inexperience and lies, to ensure that extremists will dictate to centrist Democrats forevermore. If we, knowing better, fail to stand up Now, we guarantee our extinction and that of the Party proper, our sole legacy being surrender and the abandonment of common sense, common decency, and the common man.
We mean no ill, but move now for the greater good. We rebel without enmity, being motivated not by hatred, but by affection for what was and faith for what will be. We embark also with fading anger, with rising ease and resignation, having never been eager to divide ourselves from our Family, having tried first to understand while being willfully misunderstood, and having first begged for compromise while being crippled. We have urged for equity in application of rules and bylaws. We have begged for full representation. We have called for fairness in reporting and appealed for an end to double standards.
The entirety of our appeals having been thoroughly and consistently rejected, we could have chosen to validate with our votes an underqualified, untrustworthy, inadequate candidate antithetical to our values, and to the America we know, signaling that we did not care enough to turn back a tyranny of corruption; But, no, we choose instead to hold to the reasoned decision to oppose any such candidate, the pundit class, the elites, and our friends and family deluded, refusing to mortgage our Principles for a transient electoral compromise. The responsibility is ours, and Our Future is worth fighting for.
Thus,
Be it so RESOLVED than we cannot, in good concord, call ourselves Democrats again until the Party elite and leadership return to its common senses and values, nominating only muscular Democrats who are:
( 1 ) Committed to protecting US citizens, territory, and borders from war, terrorism, energy dependence, and hostile regimes, having the temperament to meet these known and other unknown threats to our National Security, and having demonstrated both the ability to recognize diplomatic challenges and the toughness to confront them competently;
( 2 ) Patriots whose actions and chosen associations reflect a belief in the relative greatness, goodness, and generosity of America and its people, also prioritizing the happiness, well-being, and success of American soldiers and veterans;
( 3 ) Reflective of American Values, having demonstrated affinity for faith, family, scholarship and heritage and thus showing the ability to win the respect of those vested in the working and middle classes and to build broad electoral and governing coalitions spanning class, cultures, and creed;
( 4 ) Committed in word and deed to Fiscal Responsibility, by the elimination of the national debt; by the creation and maintenance of sustainable budget surpluses; by rejecting borrow-and-spend neoconservatism; and by government accountability on reckless spending, inefficiency, waste and corruption;
( 5 ) Movement progressives committed to defending American citizens from all Environmental Security threats; to requiring Health Protection for all Americans, including policies promoting Disease Prevention, building healthful communities, and establishing wholesome live-work conditions and public infrastructure;
( 7 ) Sworn to protect and preserve the exceptionalism and Prosperity of the American Civilization, safeguarding workers, students, and families by exacting technological research and innovation, strategic regulation of commerce and trade, energy independence, and quality affordable education at all levels;
( 8 ) Intolerant of threats to our Civic Virtues of freedom, equity, and democracy, among them the bigotries of disenfranchisement, discrimination, misogyny, and racism.
Be it also RESOLVED that we will not call ourselves active members of the Democratic Party until it enacts sweeping reforms – in and of its rules, bylaws, agenda, platform, processes, primaries, and conventions – that reflect of our common sense and values, and that we reject any thing and anyone unreflective as illegitimate;
Be it therefore RESOLVED that though we will vote for adequate down ballot Democrats and work for their election, we singularly and specifically reject the candidacy of an unqualified and inexperienced candidates, declining membership in his coalition, and are henceforth declared in rebellion of and expatriate from His Party;
Be it forcefully RESOLVED that we have opposed the candidate in question on grounds including but not limited to differences of ideology, principle, character, judgment, policy, and qualifications and not due to spite, anger, or revenge;
Be it RESOLVED that those of us so inclined will accept compromise candidates from other political parties, provided they are trustworthy, credentialed, centrist, competent Patriots with proven track records of bipartisanship; or pledging to support third party or write-in candidates of our choice;
Be it finally RESOLVED and most forcefully DECLARED that we have come to this crossroads of our own accords, minds, and discretions, and that Hillary Rodham Clinton bears no responsibility whatsoever for our or anyone’s decision to forgo the Democratic Party; moreover, that while we respect her loyalty to the Democratic Party and her support for it, she does not hold us hostage nor can she or anyone force her decisions and choices upon us.

Thank you! We have always been Democrats, in a Republican state. We have moved to California where we thought our votes would really count more, but the DNC let us down! Our votes and all those in Florida and Michigan are supposed to matter! Why does everyone want to tell Florida how it voted regardless of how it really voted?
We need to force change for honesty, not to back some guy they decided we had to back! There are about 50 sites now when you google Hillary Clinton Supporters against Obama, that are all calling for a fair and honest tally of votes! Why should we care what a bunch of elitist “Super” delegates say? They seem to me to be part of what has gone wrong!
We need better, and we deserve it.
My husband and I are both changing to Independents. Can you believe Howard Dean had the nerve to send an email to me (I am guessing from Hillary’s email lists) asking me to give money to support Obama? No way! Votes should matter! Thank you for pushing toward creating a system that will represent the people!

for awhile i thought , i was one of the few, now i see there are many! I love this country, and dont like the things that have been going, in congress and senate pork, not letting us have nuclear, or drill, all because of the al gore alarmist agenda, its a disgrace what they are doing and have done, and its pretty funny not only did they fix it for obma to get the nom, but they also fixed the economy just at the election time! we were fine just a few yrs ago, before the dems started campaigning , and sending trilon to their projects which dont help us. and point fingers at bush, they are the ones who write the bills. if obama gets in we will lose our privacy of medical records, we will get offered a $1000 bucks, 10% credit, so he and they can raise electric gas, medical, and we will have to work 2 or 3 jobs to support his plans, remember carter? I do, gas lines, 21% interest on homes, on tv all the time telling us to look in the mirror! obama says we should not eat so much, or drive suvs, or have a/c to low the rest of the world thinks we shouldnt? sounds like the green machine going around telling the world we are messing everything up, dosent it?

I too am a fervent Hillary supporter who will NOT under any circumstances vote for Obama even if Hillary runs as his VP (which would be poison to her credibility). As when Gore lost to Bush, I feel with every part of my being that Obama is wrong for America. I am a male in his 50″s and have voted Democrat for 30 years but no longer will. I believe America will wake up one day and it will be too late. Obama scares the hell out of me and I am afraid for my Country that I love. Only if Hillary is selected by the DNC to run as President will I return to the party. John McCain and I have very different policy ideas but our values are similar. God bless America.

This is a tired old wedge issue trotted out during election years by lame pundits and politicians to fire up left wing nutjos and their counterparts on the right. Nobody is falling for these fear tactics anymore. The Court has leaned conservative for thirty years, and been conservative for three. During most of that time there have been Republican Presidents (all three of whom were much less moderate than McCain) and during much of that time there was a Republican Congress. Guess what? Roe v. Wade didn’t go anywhere.
And it’s not going anywhere. The GOP has no intention of ensuring a progressive majority for three generations by making abortion illegal and unsafe.

I’m with you. As a former reporter, I’m mad as hell about what the media cabal, esp. CNN (Obama News Network, and Stealth Obama Campaign headquarters) and MSNBC (Obama Fan Club) did. Republican voting for Obama…Went to the grocery store and I can’t afford $5 for bread…just can’t afford it anymore. What use to take me 45 minutes to got home…now it’s 1 1/2 hour. I had to take public trans..because I can’t afford gas. I need somthing new…sorry Dem. U have a good thing and you don’t know it. I screwed up twice by voting republican and look where it got me.

It is not possible to read this site, to reflect on the posting, and not come to the conclusion that you are exactly what you say you are not: bitter. And angry. You may all be racists as well, hard to tell as most people hide that one away. But I agree with about one thing, you certainly do not seem to share values that are commonly associated with the democratic party.

For your information, I and the Administrator of the site are African Americans. There are numerous reasons to not vote for Senator Obama, many of them listed at this site, none of which include his ethnic heritage.

This is well thought out and mostly excellent. I ask that you eliminate the term ” reverse racism.” It implies that only white people are capable of true racism, which is what the Obamas believe. Sen. Obama demonstrated this in his famous speech by using the term “reverse discrimination” and describing the behavior of an individual, his grandmother no less, as that of a “typical white person.” I would like to believe that white people, as with any group, are more diverse than that. That speech was supposed to be Obama’s “I have a dream” moment, but Dr. King never would have been so callous. All the more reason not to vote for such an unqualified candidate.

I agree. The Democrats keep failing me and many others by running roughshod over common people. It’s time to try something different. It’s time out for walking lockstep behind a candidate just because of the letter next to his name. It’s time to vote on principle, not partisanship.
If you had bothered to read this Manifesto, which does not even mention race, you would know that it’s not about candidates, it’s about country. If Hillary had never won, Obama would still be unqualified. He would still lack judgment. And character. Plenty of Democrats now determined not to vote for Obama disagreed with the selection of John Kerry, but still voted for him because he could faithfully execute the office. So you argument doesn’t hold water. It’s not about Clinton, it’s about what’s wrong with Obama.
I have explained this time and time again, but you people insist it’s only about spite and revenge and racism. You never address Obama’s deficiencies. That is going to be his downfall.

Oh, by the way…the same behavior Hillary supporters have running to McCain..would have been the same if Hillary was the Nominee…Obama supporters would be voting for McCain. So, this is what I see…Obama well be getting republican, independent, and democrate votes in November. Hillary will get Dem votes (her white working class folks) in november which by the way the repbulican won these votes in 2000 and 2004 so the dem was not going to get those anyway - which means she will probably lose because Republicans are not going to support her over John McCain..sorry folks.

I have already changed my party from Democrat to Independent. I switched from Republican to Democrat when Bill Clinton ran in 1992 and I remained a Democrat until NOW!
I sent Hillary Clinton a ‘Thank you’ card and included a $1 dollar bill. If 18 million of her supporters did the same she would have more than enough to cancel her entire debt… I hope that you do the same. Imagine the impact this will have by flooding her Washington, D.C. office with thank you cards and 18 million $1 dollar bills.

this may be hard to hear for some people, but i ask this is all honesty and seriousness. if you are not happy with the Democratic Party and want a leader who will promote a more progressive agenda, then why has there been no mention of Ralph Nader?

Mr. McCain right now is the only candidate talking about energy and environmental policy as a security issue (something this site has advocated long before anyone). That shows promise. We feel he is our best shot at defeating Mr. Obama. Of course, we don’t discourage anyone from looking into other candidates.

Like Tony, as a former reporter, I’m outraged about the so-called mainstream news media shilling for Obama and conducting themselves with Hillary Clinton as they did and have. None of them are journalists any more, if ever they were, nor are they’re employers legitimate news outlets.
That said, the Democrat Party left me a very long time ago. I’m very encouraged to see that others also see now that it’s no longer working for them.
Meanwhile, as an independent, I hope that all of you will support and then vote for John McCain–and keep fascist, whiner, narcissist and racist Barack Obama from being anything more than some inexperienced, portfolio-less hack from Chicago.

Thank you for this, so true. Waiting for next time doesn’t work anymore, Fix it right now. Hillary won the votes the people spoke.
But this goes beyond Hillary and I will not be voting for down ticket Dems either since they are responsible for this corrupt man being the nominee in the first place. No to Durbin , no to Melissa Bean for me as well.
Always voted Dem, but I have no respect for this so called Dem Party. Will be McCain for me and my family and friends from all over the U.S.
Oh, and BHO and Obots keep using that Race Card against other Dems who supported Civil Rights. And BTW Hillary and Bill did more for Katrina then BHO and MO ever did to my knowledge.
I know I called his office and begged them to help the people of NO. And got no response I might add. BHO was too busy promoting himself to even be bothered.

I am so glad that this has all come out the way it has. The Democratic party used to believe itself wrongly to be the party of love and light. We weren’t. We were the party of piss and vinegar masquerading as the party of love and light. There grew within our midst an arrogant quality that said that we were tolerant as long as everyone agreed with us. Everyone else were the intolerant ones. We know now what we didn’t know then. This is hardly true.
Barack Obama won the primary fair and square based on the rules set up by Clinton’s campaign leaders. She had, at the very least, an equal shot at the nomination. She didn’t get it. She ran a horrible campaign. Perhaps she could have chosen more wise leaders to head her campaign. Perhaps a few more women could have been helpful.
She has moved on. Bill and Hillary know the stakes of the election. They are supporting Obama.
To the rest of you, our party is healthier and stronger for getting this out in the open. If we truly meant what we said before Hillary lost we must put our nation’s health and success above personality. If we don’t put our nation first we really don’t know what it means to be a Democrat in the first place.
All of the talk of stolen elections and ill gotten gains now rings shrill and hollow. If our own primary nomination get’s stolen what does that say about our party’s fairness and previous allegations of unfairness in the past? If the Democratic party is about bitterness, shallowness, and identity politics I want nothing to do with it. If following this path is the price of unity I don’t want it either.
Obama’s supporters might be the most authentic PUMA’s after all. I would hate to give up the values of what can make the Democratic Party great simply to please a vocal group that is hateful, full of spite, with an inability to see what is right and the unwillingness to admit when one has lost. I agree with you PUMAs who would cut off your nose to spite your face. I want nothing to do with you. There is a Republican party of bitter and spite that will accept you with open arms. They are for party unity regardless of principle and fairness. They are the party that will give you a female candidate and then muzzle her.
